Jim Sauter, Jr. has been around racing his entire life and judging from his last name, there was never any doubt that he too would behind the wheel in the cockpit of a racecar one day.

  The son of former NASCAR driver Jim Sauter, the brother of NASCAR drivers Tim Sauter, Jay Sauter and Johnny Sauter and the uncle of Travis Sauter, Jim Sauter, Jr. currently competes in the Late Model ranks. In that division alone, he’s amassed 18 feature wins and claimed back-to-back team championships in the same number of seasons. Each of the championships came at different speedways.

   Aside from being a driver, Jim got he feet wet by being a racecar mechanic. He’s helped out various teams over the years and continues to do so when his schedule allows.

   From 2005-2006 he resided in North Carolina and worked as the front tire changer and Car Chief/ Crew Chief for a team on the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series. He was also Car Chief, Shop Foreman and Front Tire Changer from 1996-2001 on various NASCAR Sprint Cup (formerly Winston Cup) and Nationwide (formerly Busch Series) teams.

   In  2011 he was the Crew Chief for Kenny Compton, Jr. and he filled the same role on a part time basis in 2013. From 2010 through today, Jim has been serving as the Crew Chief for his brother Johnny’s Late Model team as well.
   Aside from being a wonderful family man and Christian, Jim owns and operates Sauter Floor Covering, located in Tomah, WI. He enjoys spending every free minute that he gets with his wife Katie and their two daughters, Addyson (5) and Avery (1).

  As the old saying goes, racers eat, breathe and sleep racing. For Jim Sauter, Jr, two out of three ain’t bad. With his busy schedule, hard work ethic and dedication to his family and the sport of auto racing, there’s no way that he could even consider sleeping!
